Biirri is more than a business—it’s a family-driven endeavour deeply rooted in heritage, connection, and purpose. Our founder, Emma Conlon-Turaganivalu, carries the wisdom and strength of her family and ancestors into every aspect of Biirri’s work.
Emma’s father is a proud Wakka Wakka man from Cherbourg, and her mother is a Wiradjuri woman from Peak Hill, NSW, with family links to Condobolin, Dubbo, and Gilgandra. The richness of their cultural connections extends to Koa Country in Winton, Kullili Country in Thargomindah, and Gubbi Gubbi/Kabi Kabi lands on the Sunshine Coast.
Having lived in Murgon and Cherbourg for over 25 years, Emma has witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by the Community—the lack of culturally relevant services, the barriers to effective service delivery, and the gaps in training for our Mob. Completing her Diploma in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education deepened her understanding of these issues and fuelled her passion to create change.
Biirri was born out of a desire to be the bridge—a bridge between Indigenous and non-Indigenous worlds, fostering understanding, advocacy, and self-determination. Emma founded Biirri to empower the Community, support businesses and organisations in engaging with Mob respectfully, and champion self-determination for her people.
Through meaningful partnerships, Biirri reflects the values of connection, respect, and cultural empowerment passed down through generations. As a family-based business, Biirri embodies the strength of heritage and the drive to uplift others, creating culturally grounded consultancy and training services that make a lasting difference—not just for businesses but for every individual and community we touch.
